Some cons about the Postiguet Beach

Most of the bad things that can be said about this beach are related to the great overcrowding it suffers during the summer.

Be careful with things when you go to the water because it is relatively frequent that thefts occur at bathing times during the summer. Ask someone to keep your things and never leave them alone.

Another bad thing during the summer is that the cleanliness of the beach declines a bit due to the large volume of people visiting the beach daily.

Still, it is a place worth visiting.

Why is Postiguet Beach called Postiguet Beach?

In the 17th century, when Alicante was still within its walls, there was a large gate that provided access to the beach.

And then there was a much smaller gate, with a latch, that allowed entry for the fishermen from the Raval Roig neighborhood.

That gate was a small gate, called “postigo” in Spanish, and since it’s a small gate, in Valencian, small things are referred to as “et.”

So that’s why it ended up being, instead of “postigo,” “postiguet.”

It was the beach accessed from the small gate, or in other words, from the “postiguet.”

And over time, it simply became known as Postiguet Beach, and it remains so to this day.
